Today I’m linking up for Show & Tell Tuesday!
This week’s post is about your life’s mixtape… what songs would be the soundtrack to different stage(s) of your life?
I’m going to break this down into different stages of my life and give you a little play-by-play of what was going on in that stage, how I was feeling and then followed it up with my song choice(s)…
Let’s start out with early childhood… from birth to age 5 ( before I began school ).
Childhood was full of outdoors adventures, tons of make-believe play, and Barbies & dolls galore. I spent time with family and friends and was an only child. I loved to dance and sing during these years.
The song(s) that I think represent this time in my life are: “Barbie Girl” by Aqua & “Rock This Country!” by Shania Twain.
Next up I’ll go with early elementary school… aged 5 – 10.
It was in these years that I went from an only child to a big sister. It was honestly a hard transition – 7 years of being the centre of attention, the only child that people cared about / paid attention to, and having to share my parents with someone who was SO needy and whiney ( AKA a brand new baby ) was hard. In this time I also spent a ton of time with friends. Growing up was super fun for me. I was always busy and playing games. As with any other girl who grew up in the late 90’s early 2000’s, Spice Girls and Backstreet Boys were my one true love. My very favourite times were going to this tiny mall with my dad on Sunday mornings for the flea market, followed by breakfast at McDonald’s. In the mall I would always get Spice Girls stickers and candies from a toy/candy machine. I had a huge collection of all things Spice Girls.
The song that 100% represents this time in my life is: “Spice Up Your Life” by Spice Girls.
Now we’ll move to finishing off elementary school and junior high… aged 11-15.
I made the best of friends in late elementary school. There were 4 other girls and me who spent every free second we had together. We loved playing sports with a group of 5 boys ( who we all LOVED haha ) and we had our monthly sleepovers where we loved staying up until 5:00 am and gossiping & watching movies.
The song that represents this time in my life is: “White Houses” by Vanessa Carlton.
Then we move onto high school… aged 15 – 18.
High school was my very favourite time in my life so far. I was a social butterfly, my best friends and I spent so much time together ( we even worked together!! ), and I met Daniel. I feel like I had tons of free time, I partied and loved my life.
The song(s) that represent this time in my life are: “Bottoms Up” by Trey Songz & Nicki Minaj, “2012” by Jay Sean & Nicki Minaj, “All I Do Is Win” by DJ Khaled, Ludacris’ full album “Battle Of The Sexes”, “Just A Dream” by Nelly and “Teenage Dream” by Katy Perry.
After high school comes univeristy… aged 18 – 21.
University was a trying time, full of ups and downs. There were so many good times and so many not-so good times. My best friends and I ended up in different places all over the world, I lost my grandmother, I went through a party stage, I traveled a lot, met a lot of new people and made some friends I will never forget. I also switched universities, graduated in 4 years ( somehow ) and discovered that tequila and poutines will keep you in better shape than salads and green juices.
The song(s) that represent this time in my life are: “Part Of Me” by Katy Perry, “Best Song Ever” by One Direction, “Highway Don’t Care” by Tim McGraw, Taylor Swift & Keith Urban, “Anaconda” by Nicki Minaj, “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran and “Time Of Our Lives” by Pitbull & Neyo.
Currently, in my early 20’s:
Right now, I’m torn between wanting to be an adult and missing the freedom high school & the party-life of being a full-time university student. I’m struggling between wanting to drop everything & run away and settling down, buying a house & starting a family. Basically I’m working on soaking everything in and going on as many adventures as I can, all while working crazy hours, taking classes and trying to stay sane. I’m in love with the best boy and I’m also in love with my best friends. Everything right now is falling into place, even though sometimes it feels as though it’s all falling apart.
The song that represents this time in my life is: “I Lived” by One Republic.
