Hat | Poncho | Sweater Dress – similar | Tights | OTK Boots

I just wanted to quickly check-in. If you don’t follow me on Twitter or Instagram, than you probably wouldn’t know that I made the decision to abandon Blogtober on Sunday.

It was a sad decision, but it was definitely one that I had to make.

I feel as though my blog posts were declining in effort and I wasn’t super motivated to write them because all of a sudden I had 8,000 assignments due for school. That’s only a slight exaggeration, I kid you not.

These next 2 weeks will either make or break me!

So I will be posting as often as I can over the next little while, but to be honest, my free time is limited! I’m not trying to make excuses, but I just want my blog posts to be the best that they can be. I don’t want to feel rushed or pressured to get one up when I’m just not feeling it because I’ve just written a 10-page essay.

The weather lately has been so up & down, I don’t even really know how to dress.

This morning I left my house wearing a puffy winter jacket, but now I feel silly for wearing it because it’s bright and sunny and doesn’t seem that chilly at all…

Layers have been something that I have been drawn towards this season.

I live in scarves and cardigans, but I have a new-found love for ponchos.

Ponchos are one of those things that I used to live in when I was in elementary school ( just like chokers ). They’re one of those pieces of fashion that have come back on trend & I am living for it.

My mom would disagree that they were ever ‘out of style’ BUT they definitely were not as popular a few autumns ago as they are now.

Layering a poncho or a cape overtop of a chunky knit sweater or even a long-sleeved shirt is one of the coziest ways to dress and I am loving it.

There’s nothing like wrapping a cozy blanket-like piece over you and calling it fashion, am I right?

OK, so the whole point of today’s post is to talk about hats because again, I’m linking up with J Petite and Pucker Up Style for their weekly linkup and today’s fashion theme is hats.

Last fall I did a mini series on my blog all about my favourite pieces for fall & I talked about hats back in pretty much every single post. I wore hats 24/7 last year and I feel as though I’m going to do the same this year.

Basically my love for hats runs strong.

I have a really hard time finding a hat that fits me well though, because I don’t know if you can tell or not, but I have a really big head.

No seriously.

I worked at a fast food restaurant for like four years and they had to order me in a visor because my head didn’t fit in the hats that they had for our uniform…

So when I say I struggle to find hats that fit my head, I mean it.

I’ve had really good luck at F21 though, overall. I mean I’ve ordered a few hats online – because they’re way cheaper than in stores! – and I’ve looked absolutely ridiculous in them, so I’ve returned them. But for the most part, F21 hats fit me well.

I love this black hat and I feature it all the freakin’ time, but honestly it’s my favourite fit / style / colour / look.

A black hat will go with just about any outfit, so I definitely recommend investing in one if you are a hat person like me!

I hope you guys are having a good week so far!

Cardigan ( same style, grey colour no longer available online ) | Denim Shirt Dress | Tights | Booties

Happy Saturday guys! It’s been such weird weather around here today… one minute it was sunny and then next it was a torrential downpour and now it’s stopped again ( but who knows for how long?! ).

There’s so much flooding and huge puddles around. I’ve seen so many pictures on the local traffic Twitter page of cars basically covered in water while they’re driving through the streets.

It’s crazy!

It made for the perfect lazy Saturday though. I went for brunch with my grandfather who I feel like I haven’t seen in 100 years and then Daniel and I got coffee & camped out in the basement and did homework all afternoon. It’s been the perfect day. The only thing that would make it even better is a hot fudge ice cream sundae, but I’m not sure if I want to brave the flooding or not!

Today’s post takes us back to last weekend. It was absolutely freezing and SO windy, but that didn’t stop us from going to a local boardwalk for a quick walk and to snap some pictures.

These are a few of the pictures that my hair was actually co-operating in… the wind was actually insane this day. I was getting so annoyed!

I love pairing a cardigan or sweater over a dress for fall days. It’s the perfect way to transition some of your summer pieces into the next season, because let’s be real – it would be a huge waste to never wear those clothes again!

This denim dress is one of my favourite pieces that I picked up in the summer. It’s super lightweight and the material is the softest denim material that I’ve ever felt. The length is perfect & there’s still a few available online!

My cardigan is super old, but they’ve brought back one that is super similar, it’s just in a pretty brown and white striped colour. I actually am debating whether or not I want to pick it up. I love AE cardigans. They last forever.

OK, off to make some tea because I’ve decided that I don’t want to brave the floods… ( for now – I’ll probably change my mind later ).

Hi guys!

Today’s post is just a fun little questionnaire highlighting my favourite beauty products that I use.

Maybe you can get a little inspo from it, or maybe you can let me know if there’s any better products that I should be using! I would love to hear your favourites in the comments.

beauty-favouritesoriginal picture source

Foundation | I love love love Estee Lauder’s Double-Wear and Nars basic foundation is a good one too. I tend to stick to more expensive foundations just because I find that drug store brands tend to break me out more, but I used to swear by Maybelline’s Fit Me for a while.

Powder | Laura Mercier’s translucent setting powder is pretty much all I use. Occasionally I’ll use the Fit Me powder from Maybelline.

Primer | Foudation primer by Laura Mercier is the only one that I’ve found that doesn’t break me out or make me super shiny! I use it almost every day, I seriously swear by it.

Blush | Nars blushes are my favourites. I usually use Deep Throat, Desire or Orgasm ( OMG, the names… ).

Bronzer | I usually use Nars Laguna bronzer, but sometimes I use the Physicians Formula bronzer… I have no idea what the shade or name is ( or if there even is one! ) if I’m being honest.

Concealer | I sound like a broken record… Nars Creamy concealer or Maybelline’s Fit Me concealer are pretty much all I use!

Highlight | I can never highlight properly, so I’ve given up. I don’t use any – but I’d love to figure this out some day.

Moisturizer | Cetaphil or LUSH’s Imperialis. Love them both equally.

Lipgloss | Never really use any.

Lipstick | Love love love MAC’s Whirl.

Lip balm | Burt’s Bees! All of the scents.

Lip liner | Spice by MAC.

Eye Primer | I tend to just use the paint pot by MAC in the shade Painterly. It covers super nicely.

Eyeshadow | I don’t really wear eyeshadow too much, but when I do, it’s the middle colours from Urban Decay’s Naked 2 palette.

Eyeliner | None.

Mascara | Lancome Doll Lashes or Covergirl’s pink one.

Face brush | I swear by all Eco Tools brushes. Affordable, super good quality & feel so nice on the face.

Eye brush | Eco tools.

Nail polish | Linkin Park After Dark by OPI or Essie’s Ballet Slippers are my FAVS even thought I hardly ever have my nails painted!

Perfume | Elizabeth & James – Nirvana Black, or Viktor & Rolf’s Flowerbomb.

Makeup Brand ( High End & Drug Store ) | Nars or MAC & Maybelline for sure!

Hope you all have a great weekend!

Knit Sweater | Double-Buckle Belt – similar  | Jeans | Booties | Choker

Oh, Thursday.

I love you Thursday. Is there any day that’s better? I don’t think so…

I’ve always been a fan of Thursdays – maybe because I was born on a Thursday evening, or maybe because Thursday’s are the best day for TV shows.

It’s also so close to Friday, but there’s still time left in the week to get your ass into gear and be productive and get those last minute tasks completed before the weekend comes.

I wore this outfit this past weekend and then I may or may not have worn it again on Tuesday to class. Nothing is better than a cozy sweater in class… well I mean, maybe sweatpants and a hoodie, but I feel so out of place if I wear that to classes this year. Did I ever mention that my program is intense this year… * insert eye roll emoji here *

So far this fall, I’ve been all about chunky sweaters and cardigans. I love wearing cozy tops when it’s crisp outside – but doesn’t everyone?

I find it really hard to find a good knit sometimes though. Some are too itchy and scratchy, others just don’t feel cozy enough. Some knit sweaters are too dang short, others have sleeves that feel too tight. Some sweaters have slits that are ridiculously high up the side, others just fit really boxy.

Anyone else feel my knitwear struggle?

H&M has been my go-to for knit sweaters this season. They’re the perfect weight, they aren’t itchy and they fit amazingly.

I may or may not have bought this same sweater in two colours… But if you love something, you buy it in all the possible colours, am I right?

This sweater is also perfect to pair with a chunky detailed belt, because it has slits up the side ( but not too high up! ) so it can be perfectly tucked in the front of your pants, but the back hangs out and doesn’t get too chunky in the front.

I feel like I’m the only person that thinks this much into knitwear… I sound a little bit crazy.

I’ve posted about this belt before & it’s no longer available online, but this one is a close option for an affordable one. This is a similar belt but it’s a little more pricy.

Chat tomorrow,

october19-1 october19-2 october19-3 october19-4

Today has completely wiped me out.

It really doesn’t help that the cramps from hell have hit, I got a flu shot last night and literally cannot lift my arm past like my bellybutton ( it hurts so bad ) and we’re getting home renos done and they’re so f’in loud.

Like loud loud… taking off a brick chimney is NO JOKE.

But all that whining aside, I think the overall cause of my emotional drain is school.

School this year is all types of weird.

During my undergrad degree, it was all fun & games. Seriously. I enjoyed going to school ( I KNOW… who enjoys school? But seriously, all my friends were there, there was comfy chairs, good study spaces, GF food, a nice up-to-date gym, & tons more. That place felt like home… ), I was always out with friends, had so much energy and the school work was minimal.

There wasn’t really that much pressure either.

I mean, ya, I was determined to graduate in four years even though I switched degrees and changed my mind a million times, so some semesters were a heavy course load of 6-7 courses… but it was still, overall, easy.

Care-free. No pressure. Limited stress.

This program that I’m in now is INTENSE. Like I obviously knew that there would be more pressure, the program would be a little more serious and it wouldn’t be all fun & games, but I never could have imagined that it would require this much time and energy.

It’s a huge commitment.

I know it’ll all pay off in the end, but wheewwww I am exhausted just thinking about the next ~2 years.

Lesson plans, unit plans, research papers ( WHY!? ), a million little things that all add up and take up so much time.

My to-do list is n e v e r ending.

It’s fun stuff ( for the most part – who really likes research papers?! ) but it’s so overwhelming.

I’ve also been dealing with the most intense anxiety that I’ve had in a while. I’m sure that it’s been triggered because of school, and it’s so not fun.

I guess that lately, my days have been consumed by worrying.

& worrying is not so fun.

My mom’s most favourite quote is:

worrying is like a rocking chair. it will give you something to do, but it will get you nowhere.

And that just about sums up my current state of being.

Worrying is definitely giving me something to do, but I’m really not getting anything out of it.

The lesson plans won’t write themselves, but honestly, it’s really not that hard to do. The research paper won’t research itself, but honestly, it’s really not that hard to do.

All of the things that I’m worrying about are so silly.

I have this bad habit of making everything seem way worse than it really is.

For example, my school workload. If I stopped sitting and worrying about it & overthinking it all of the time, I could use that time to actually work on it and I’d be ahead of the game.

So I’m trying to curb the worry, stop the overthinking and look at things on a smaller scale. I don’t need to worry about ALL of the work that I have left to do this semester, instead I can focus on what’s due over the course of the next few days ( or week ) and not think about it. Just do it.

I’m really hoping that this will lift my mood and elevate my spirits because honestly, being this emotionally drained is exhausting.

Anyone else a constant worrier & over-thinker? How do you just stop and breathe, and tackle things level-headedly? It’s hard work…

Be back tomorrow with something more light-hearted and less whiney, promise.

x julieann

PS – shout out to Daniel for these pictures. They just radiate fall vibes & I love his artistic photography skills. Teach me your ways.
