OK, so I will admit that when chokers came back on trend, I was SUPER pumped. But I was also a little indecisive about whether I could actually rock one or not.

Back when I was in elementary school, when chokers were a huge thing before, I rocked one ( sometimes two, ok, most of the time two ) every. single. day. without fail.

Like, I seriously did not leave my house without one.

I wouldn’t be caught dead in my grade five classroom without a choker on.

It just wouldn’t be right.

When I noticed that people were actually wearing chokers again I was all ‘OMG yes, my day has come to shine again’ and then I was all ‘OMG no, how do I pull one off without looking like I’m 10 years old again?’… you see the issue here.

Well, once I bought my first one from F21 ( the ONLY place I buy them! ) it was like a rekindled friendship. I started out with just a simple black leather-material choker and have since branched out and I love lace ones and velvet ones! I’m not really sure if I’m into the ones with the gems or dangly metal pieces – just me, they look cute on other people! But I do love experimenting with different colours now.

I actually wore the first one I bought to death and had to splurge on some more.

I’ve fallen back into that grade five trap of never leaving my house without one around my neck.

It just wouldn’t be right.

I paired my choker with this slip dress over top of a knit sweater because I’m a HUGE fan of dresses over shirts / sweaters this season. Like a mega huge fan. I love it!

I also wore my favourite leggings ( 2 for $18 at Costco, I love a good deal on leggings! ) with this outfit because honestly, this weekend was freezing. I mean today might be 20C outside, but this weekend it was cold. And windy.

So freakin’ windy…

I needed all of the warm clothes.

OK, so hi.

I don’t know about you, but the first month or two after summer is always the absolute worst for getting sick and feeling crappy.

Sitting in class, I can seriously WATCH people come down with colds and other sicko sicknesses that I really don’t want / have time for.

There’s a ton of things that can help prevent you from catching cold & flu bugs, but I mean ultimately you’re bound to get sick once in a while ( unfortunately )… no matter how hard you try to avoid it.

Some of my FAV tips and tricks to try to avoid these germs as best as I can are:

+ Wash your damn hands:
I am for real 100% a hand-washing freak and I’m OK with it. I wash my hands every single time I come in my house and people really find that weird. I don’t eat before I wash my hands and I sure as hell don’t put my hands in my mouth ( eyes, nose, ears, ANYWHERE ) if they’re dirty. And OK, to be real, I never really put them in my nose or ears anyway – who touches inside their ears??? & I hate when I see people rub their eyes in public OMG. I’m just saying, all of those places are open places which can let germs in and I am not down for that.

+ Liquids:
Drink up people! OJ, water, tea, lemon water, green smoothies. All of those drinks are such key liquids that will help your body protect from germs and fight any off, should you have any hanging around. Obviously you need to eat well too, so keeping healthy foods in your diet is key too.

+ Sleep it off:
If you’re feeling blah, take a nap, take it easy, go to bed early, sleep in if at all possible! Rest is cool. Seriously. I am queen of napping when I don’t feel well but I also like to make sure that I am protecting myself from becoming run down & ending up sick by going to sleep at a reasonable hour each night and allowing myself one or two days a week to ‘sleep in’ ( 8:30 am if I’m lucky but I don’t set an alarm! I seriously just don’t sleep in like EVER. It doesn’t happen anymore… ) and I do this regardless of how I’m feeling.

+ Shower:
Clean your body of all of the germs and yuckiness that you’ve touched all day. I cannot get into bed without showering, I just cannnnot do it & I don’t know why. I love to feel clean when I head to bed and I like to know that I’ve ‘washed the day away’. <<< this post is starting to make me sound like a psycho… promise I’m really not that psycho.

+ Change your bedding regularly:
Especially change it if you’ve felt a little under the weather! I aim to change my bedsheets and pillow cases once a week ( sometimes, I’m not gonna lie – it ends up being more like every ten days because life happens ) but I always try to get it done as often as I can. I also like to freshen up my blanket and duvet because those are constantly around my face and I just like to keep it fresh and clean.

+ Sanitize the shit out of your stuff:
OK, so I don’t know about you but I am addicted to my phone… like seriously always-in-my-hand, can’t-live-without-it addicted. I’m probably a psycho but each time I come home from work, or school, I sanitize my phone with an antibacterial wipe. I mean, I’m not one who always washes my hands when I’m at home & about to eat, and I am super bad at bringing my phone to bed, so why would I want those disgusting, sicko germs on my phone ( AKA on my hands )? Sanitizing wipes are the best.

+ Choose immune system boosting foods:
If you’re starting to feel sick, start choosing foods that will boost your immune system and help fight those germs. Foods high in vit-C ( oranges!!!! My fav sicky food ), warm & brothy foods ( chicken soup! Loosen up those germs in your bod ), dark & leafy greens ( kale or spinach smoothie, anyone? ), turmeric ( add this to e v e r y t h i n g, smoothies & soups especially ), and lots of rich fiber foods are so ideal.

+ Opt for a night in over a night out:
I mean duh… but we all had that one ( maybe two? ) time in university where we went out when we really shouldn’t have and ended up with bronchitis. Can’t be just me, right? But seriously, if I hadn’t have went out I know that my cold would’ve been gone in a couple days as opposed to turning into serious bronchitis and having me down & out for like three weeks. If you’re starting to feel sick, you really should evaluate whether you absolutely have to go out, or if you could lay low and have a Netflix & chill night.

Anything you guys do that helps you prevent sicko germs and pesky cold / flu bugs? Do I sound like a total psycho in this post? ( probably )…

Happy Sunday!

This weekend has been one of a kind. Daniel said I should title this post “the outfit I wore while channeling my inner werewolf” because I was kind of ( OK, really ) off this weekend. When I picked him up this morning, he said “I figured out why you were so off yesterday!” and I was like “WHAT? Why, tell me!”, thinking that it would be a logical explanation…

Nope!

Something about it being a silver moon or something and it be the first feeding time ( or something like that? ) for werewolves… apparently I’m as grumpy as a werewolf these days!

Not even going to lie – I laughed pretty hard at his reasoning, and it turned my mood right around.

This week is absolutely CRAZY with school. I have a ton of assignments due next week, so this week I will be working my butt off trying to complete them all & I feel like that’s just overwhelming me a ton… and making me act like a grumpy werewolf…

OK, so on to the outfit…

One of my favourite ways to stay warm in the fall is by wearing a cozy cardigan on top of my outfit. I posted an outfit a couple weeks ago that is super similar to this look, but I’m such a cardigan fan, I had to post about them again.

I’m definitely not a jacket girl – I can’t seem to find a jacket that I LOVE yet, but I’m not giving up hope yet. Anyone else rather splurge on actually clothes, rather than drop money on a jacket? I just feel like spending money on jackets and coats is so annoying. I’d rather buy a new sweater or a pair of jeans…

This cardigan is the perfect colour for fall. I am l o v i n g blush tones this season, so I couldn’t stop myself from picking up this cardigan. I purchased it from F21 and was so shocked at the cost / quality of this piece. It was just over $30 but it feels like a super expensive item.

I wore this to work last week and it was so comfortable for our meeting, and I also wore it this past weekend for the morning ( before I changed 300 times because Daniel and I were shooting outfits all day ). It’s such a versatile piece and can be thrown on over a dress or with leggings and jeans like I showed here.

Just a quick post today… honestly, time today got away from me and before I knew it, I was all curled up in bed & was like OMG Blogtober. So here I am. Late + quick post…

+ Favourite thing about fall:
The weather, the pumpkins, the colours and driving around, looking at the gorgeous leaves. Seriously, road trips in the fall are the BEST.

+ Favourite fall/Halloween movie:
Does Bewitched count?

+ Fashion trend you’re loving for fall:
OTK boots, turtlenecks/mocknecks and the super neutral / grey / blush pink tones that are popping up EVERYWHERE.

+ Favourite fall drink:
Pumpkin spice lattes!

+ What is fall weather like where you live:
Crisp, cool, foggy a lot of the time and WINDY AF.

+ Apple picking or hayrides:
Apple picking hands down!

+ Rain or fog:
NEITHER. I seriously don’t think that either of these are ideal for fall weather… I prefer a nice gentle breeze, cooler temps and sunshine.

+ Hocus Pocus or Halloweentown:
Confession time – I’ve honestly never seen either…

+ Corn maze or haunted house:
Both!

+ Halloween or Thanksgiving:
Thanksgiving most definitely.

+ Coats or oversized sweaters:
Oversized sweaters for sure. I don’t like having to wear coats, because they always cover up your cute outfit that’s underneath!

+ Apple pie or pumpkin pie:
I’m not a fan of pie ( or desserts in general, just cake. Gimme all the cake ).

+ Cool crisp mornings or cozy evenings:
Oooohhh, I don’t even know how to pick! Probably cozy evenings, because it’s always so hard to get out of bed in the AM when it’s freezing outside.

+ Favourite fall candle:
Sweater Weather or Marshmallow Pumpkin Latte from B&BW.

+ Favourite thing to do in the fall:
Road trips to the valley, apple pick, bake anything & everything, go for nice crisp walks, enjoy the leaves, curl up and watch movies in the evening, light candles… I just love everything about fall.

Hello and happy Friday!

Yesterday marked my 1-year blogging anniversary… I cannot believe that I forgot about it / that I’ve had my bloggy for THIS LONG. I feel as though it will be a work in progress for quite some time now, but I am loving every single minute of it!

It’s been seriously quiteeeee some time since I posted The Friday Five so I thought it was time to bring it back again.

I have been LOVING fall lately, as you probably already know… so it’s only fitting that this Friday Five post be totally fall-themed. There’s so many things that I love about fall, so let’s get right to it.

five fall closet staples:

In the fall, I like to be cozy, comfortable and warm.

There’s absolutely NOTHING that I dislike more than being cold. It makes me cranky, panicky and downright hateful sometimes ( I can’t help it… ). I always plan for the worst weather; I overdress, layer too much and wear too many pairs of socks – yes, really.

So it’s no surprise that my fall closet staples are cozy, layering pieces that are pretty practical.

+ Capes / ponchos: love throwing these on over top of a cute long-sleeve tee. They keep you so cozy and warm! I’m loving that they’re back in style.

+ Corduroy skirts: the skirt obsession continues… I love pairing a skirt with a cute top, but I love it even more when the skirt is a different texture than just a boring old cotton skirt.

+ Knit cardigans: if I’m not wearing a leather jacket or a poncho, I am most definitely wearing a knit cardigan ( or sweater ). Nothing says fall quite like a knit sweater.

+ Hats: LOVE hats. They just complete any outfit + they look so cute.

+ Sweatshirt dresses: there’s nothing better than being comfy and cozy, so is there any dress that is better than a sweatshirt dress? Throwing on a sweatshirt dress and booties is just as cute as throwing on a t-shirt dress and lace-up sandals in the summer.

five favourite snacks:

It’s hard to not reach for rich, dense, bad-for-you foods when the weather gets cold ( please tell me you agree? ).

Lately I’ve been trying to be fairly healthy and eat mostly raw, clean, green, whole foods… but some days are definitely more of a struggle than others. These snacks have been my saving graces so far this fall.

What have you been loving to snack on lately? I need some suggestions!

+ Grapes ( esp. the green ones lately! ): grapes must be in season right now!? Every bag of grapes that I’ve had recently have been so tasty! They’ve been the perfect amount of crunchy and juicy all at once. Like I said, the green ones have been especially good lately. I’ve never tried the cotton candy grapes that everyone raves about, but I seriously want to! I had them on the scanner at the grocery store a few weeks ago, and the smallest amount was $12… needless to say, I didn’t buy them.

+ Trail mix: nothing better than grabbing a handful of mixed nuts, dried berries and whatever else shredded goodness you decide to mix together, am I right? My fav things to add to trail mix are shredded coconut, cacao nibs and goji berries!

+ Herb and garlic white cheddar cheese: OMG – dead. Seriously the best type of cheese that I have ever tasted. Almost daily, I have little chunks of cheese for lunch and it’s my favourite meal of the day. Cracker Barrell makes the BEST that I’ve tried so far, but I’m always down to try other brands.

+ Vanilla almond granola: I’ve been eating peanut butter granola for the LONGEST time, but I was in the grocery store recently and picked up a box of vanilla almond granola and I just might have to say that this is my favourite type of granola that I have ever had… it’s so good. It honestly tastes just like a vanilla latte… mmmmm…

+ Apples: always a fall staple for a healthy snack. Honeycrisp are my FAV. I love when they’re in season but why do they have to be so dang expensive?!

Life lately has had its ups & downs… school has been a really low point in life lately.

I attended this university once before – my first year of university – and I absolutely HATED it. It made me panicky, emotional, depressed and uncomfortable. Ultimately, the overall vibe of the school was what finalized my decision to transfer schools & get the hell out of there, but unfortunately I am back. It’s the only school near my home that offers the education program, and I unfortunately was not in the right place in life to move out / away from home for school this year. I’ve been having some rough times with my anxiety lately, but I am determined to stick it out. I’m only technically in school for three semesters over the next two years so I am determined to stay strong and make it through.

five favourite shoes for fall:

Boots, booties, flats… OH MY.

In my opinion, there’s no better season to up your shoe game than fall. Seriously. You have SO many options. I mean some days it’s warm enough to still wear open-toed shoes, flats, even sandals! And then the next day it could be cool enough to bust out your trusty Uggs, wear some leather boots or over-the-knee boots for some added warmth on the legs, paired with a shorter dress / skirt.

What’s your favourite shoes to wear in the fall? I’m loving shopping for booties and flats lately… I can’t stop!

+ Over-the-knee boots: clearly you all know that I am obsessed with OTK boots so it’s no surprise that this is number one on the list. They’re so easy to throw on with a pair of jeans, but also SUPER cute to wear with tights and a dress / skirt. They give you that extra added warmth on your legs that is quite necessary for fall on the east coast.

+ Heeled booties: honestly, I’ve never really been comfortable wearing heels / heeled shoes but this fall, I have been ALL about the heeled booties. My favourite way to wear heeled booties is with jeans… I wear this combo alllll the time.

+ Converse: comfiest lazy-day shoes ever for every season = Converse. Always.

+ Leather boots: nothing like a good pair of leather riding boots. I have a pair of brown riding boots that I bought, like, four years ago and I still live in them in the cooler months.

+ Lace-up flats: OH so cute. I seriously feel just like a ballerina when I wear lace-up flats. They’re so girly and chic.

five favourite starbucks drinks:

It’s really no secret that I love Starbucks… like I really LOVE love Starbucks.

In the spring and summer I like iced coffees and teas, but I like to treat myself sometimes during the cooler months and indulge in a nice hot & sweet treat. These drinks have been my go-to’s lately on a day that I feel as though I need a pick-me-up. Starbucks has such expensive drinks but sometimes you’ve just gotta treat yourself, right?

+ Pumpkin Spice Lattes: I mean… what is more fall than a PSL? You can never go wrong.

+ Salted Caramel Mocha: I feel as though I have a love / hate thing with these but they are ( usually ) pretty good, depends on who makes them!

+ Vanilla Latte: uggghhhhh, my obsession. I love anything vanilla and in my opinion, there’s absolutely nowhere better to get a vanilla latte from than Starbucks.

+ Caramel Macchiato: I’m not going to lie – I prefer these iced, but they’re also super good as a hot drink so I couldn’t leave them off my list. They have a different taste when they are iced versus hot but still SO yum.

+ Caffe Mocha: chocolate-y flavoured coffee… hot and tasty drink. Seriously, delicious. I had never tried this particular drink until my friend ordered one when I was out with her and it sounded SO yummy, I had to give it a try too.

+ My plaid obsession last fall was pretty real.

+ Frolicking through the snow in Lululemon head-to-toe is what winter is made for.
