‘she adjusted her sails’ | blogmas day 6

So my photographer ( lol kidding, boyfriend, but he’s basically my photographer too, he’s damn good! ) and I took these photos way back in the beginning of fall, when everything was still so lush and green but at that time I was in the middle of deciding whether or not to take the plunge and make this site & then consumed by making this site… so they never got posted.

They’re way too pretty to not post. I feel like I’ve said this for a few of my posts recently, like this one and this one but I’m serious! I’ve never been comfortable enough to post pictures anywhere and now that I am, I feel like I need to go back and love on my old pictures.  <<<<< plus I’ve been super sick, sleeping and helping my grandpa pack up his house to move, so honestly taking new pictures has been put on the back burner for this past weekend.

But anyway, let’s get to the point of today’s post. I was sitting here this morning, looking at my collaged notebook ( god bless scrapbook stickers to make boring notebooks cute + your own ) and I read one of the quotes and it really stood out to me today.

“She stood in the storm and when the wind did not blow her way, she adjusted her sails” – Elizabeth Edwards.

This quote is SO important to take literally. It is SO real and spoke to me.

Basically if things aren’t going your way…

YOU can change it.

YOU have the power. YOU have a voice. YOU can do it.

My mom’s an elementary school teacher and she doesn’t put up with whiney kids, complaining about problems that they can fix. She always says “YOU have the power. YOU don’t need me. YOU have a voice”. And at 4 and 5 years old, these kids can fix their own problems, and THEY DO.

Because someone has told them that they are powerful and that they can.

And this is me telling you that you can.  <<<< also telling myself that I can… because although I like to think that I have my shit together, 9/10 times I struggle and I don’t think I can do it either. Sometimes we all need a little reminder that WE MATTER.

That we are powerful.

That we can change things when they aren’t going the way we want them to.

It is so important to remember that we are all capable of doing great things and when something isn’t going our way, going according to plan, or we don’t like what our current situation is we can change it.

I’m sorry to get so preachy, but it is Sunday morning, I’m tired and was unhappy with how things were going right now, until I saw that quote and remembered that if something isn’t going how I want it to I HAVE the power to change it.

And right now, as of this very moment, I am changing it.

And you should too.

We are all human and we all matter. Our happiness is the most important.

And if something isn’t making you happy or going your way, you have the power to change it.

I plan on having up a Christmassy post tomorrow, PLEASE don’t get mad when & if this doesn’t happen. Because we all know how bad I am at promises. I am going to try my damn best to have one up… if it’s not Christmassy, I promise it won’t be preachy again HA.
